Additive Manufacturing Processes

Content

The course “Additive Manufacturing Processes” provides participants with in-depth knowledge of industrially relevant additive manufacturing processes and their process chains. During the course, students learn the theoretical principles and practical application aspects of the following processes:

  • MEX: Material extrusion
  • MJT: Material jetting
  • PBF: Powder bed fusion
  • BJT: Binder jetting
  • DED: Directed energy deposition
  • VPP: Vat photopolymerization.

In addition, the following topics are covered:

  • Holistic view of the process chain
  • Materials for additive manufacturing processes (production and characterisation)
  • Design methods and simulation in additive manufacturing
  • Future trends and innovative technologies.

The acquired knowledge is supplemented by practical lectures from industry, which offer valuable insights into current applications, challenges and innovations in additive manufacturing.

Learning Outcomes:

Students ...

  • can describe the principles and special features of industrially relevant additive manufacturing technologies
  • are able to explain the process of layer formation in additive manufacturing processes and evaluate it in terms of manufacturing possibilities
  • can describe the various methods of powder production and assess their advantages and disadvantages in relation to additive manufacturing
  • can name the essential materials for additive manufacturing, explain their properties and analyse their fields of application
  • are able to explain additive process chains, including heat treatment, post-processing and quality assurance, and to evaluate their significance for component quality.
  • can take into account the design requirements and process-specific features of additive manufacturing in component development
  • are able to classify current research and development topics in the field of additive manufacturing in the context of industrial applications
