The newly founded CNBW promotes German-Chinese (and in particular: Baden-Württemberg-Chinese) understanding and the stringent expansion of relations as a neutral, non-profit platform for interested parties from business, science and research, administration and municipalities as well as associations. Since the beginning of 2021, relevant China-specific issues have been discussed in intensive exchange within the network.

  • In-depth exchange and cooperation in working groups on topics such as German-Chinese cooperation, New Energy and New Mobility, Artificial Intelligence etc.

Baden-Württemberg's trade relations with China have continued to strengthen in recent years. China was the second most important partner among importing countries in 2019. The wbk Institute of Production Engineering has been in close exchange with China for many years: Prof. Gisela Lanza had founded the Global Advanced Manufacturing Institute (GAMI) in China: It conducts on-site research into the requirements of the Chinese market and global production structures in order to develop new, robust production networks for industrial companies. GAMI offers a broad portfolio of research and industrial projects as well as advanced training programs.

In addition, the wbk is involved in the Advanced Manufacturing Technology Center (AMTC) together with the Chinese-German University College (CDHK) and the College of Mechanical Engineering (Tongji University) is at the Jiading Campus of Tongji University in Shanghai. Against the background of Germany's leading role in automotive technology and the fact that China is the largest automotive producing nation in the world, the center is focused on production technology development for automotive OEMs in China and their suppliers.
