q-sourcing - Project Aims

 The aim of the integrated research project is to methodically support machine and plant construction branches during the planning phase of purchasing process in low-cost countries. Based on the objective described above, the following fundamental outcomes regarding the project at hand have been derived:
  • A methodology for the evaluation of local component spectrums with regard to the adequacy of procurement in low-cost countries.
  • A methodology for the evaluation of possible low-cost procurement markets.
  • A methodology for the evaluation of in-house skills and resources with regard to procurement in low-cost countries.
  • Verified selection of components and procurement markets, while taking in to concern the skills and resources of the buying company.
  • Measures and guidelines for the development of the buying company.
  • Measures for the co-ordination components to the location-specific conditions and capabilities of the supplier. (Design for low-cost country sourcing).
  • A methodology for the compilation of supplier requirement profiles.
  • A methodology for the dynamic evaluation of suppliers, which also takes into concern the uncertainties and flexible operational alternatives of Management.

In summary, here follow the partial outcomes

  • A guideline for the preparations towards sourcing in low-cost countries, which also allows the introduction and implementation of the project outcomes for SMEs within other branches.
  • A software concept including the implementation of the methods within a functional model, as well as documentation to act as a basis for future, strategical decisions.
